Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start tracking?
After granting location permission during onboarding, Mylage tracks automatically in the background. Just go about your day — when you start driving, walking, or biking, Mylage detects the movement and begins recording. You can also tap "Start Trip" on the Today screen for manual control.
Why should I choose "Always Allow" for location?
"Always Allow" lets Mylage detect trips even when the app isn't open — this is essential for automatic tracking. Without it, you'd need to open the app every time before starting a drive. Your location data stays on your device and is never sent to us.
How much battery does Mylage use?
Mylage is designed to be battery-efficient. It uses low-power location monitoring when idle and only activates GPS when it detects a trip. Features like speed-adaptive filtering, stationary GPS pause, and battery-level awareness keep drain minimal — typically 2-5% per day with regular driving.
How accurate is the distance tracking?
Mylage uses your iPhone's GPS which is typically accurate to within 5-15 meters. Over a typical trip, distance accuracy is within 1-3% of your vehicle's odometer. Accuracy may decrease in areas with poor GPS signal (tunnels, dense urban areas, heavy tree cover).
Can I use Mylage for IRS mileage deductions?
Mylage provides trip logs with dates, distances, and start/end locations that can support IRS mileage claims. However, Mylage is not a certified measurement tool. The IRS requires a "contemporaneous" log of business trips — Mylage's automatic tracking satisfies this. We recommend keeping your vehicle's odometer readings as backup documentation. Consult a tax professional for specific guidance.
How do I tag trips as business or personal?
Swipe left on any trip in your History to quickly tag it. You can also tap into a trip's detail view and toggle between Business and Personal. When exporting to CSV, you can filter by category to get just your business miles.
Does Mylage work without internet?
Yes! Trip tracking works completely offline. GPS doesn't require an internet connection. Trip naming (reverse geocoding) requires a brief internet connection when a trip ends, but if unavailable, the trip is saved with time-based names and can be named later.
How do I export my trips?
Go to History > tap the export icon (top right). Choose your date range and category filter (All, Business, or Personal), then share the CSV file via email, AirDrop, Files, or any other sharing method.
Does my data sync across devices?
Yes, if you have iCloud enabled. Mylage uses Apple's CloudKit to sync your trip data across your iPhone and other Apple devices. The sync is encrypted and goes through your personal iCloud account — we never see your data.
How do I delete my data?
You can delete individual trips by swiping left in the History view. To delete all data, go to Settings > Delete All Data. Uninstalling the app also removes all locally stored data. If you use iCloud sync, data on other devices may need to be deleted separately.
What's included in Mylage Pro?
The free version includes unlimited tracking, trip naming, business/personal tagging, CSV export, and iCloud sync. Mylage Pro adds premium animations, advanced route maps, Siri Shortcuts, Home Screen widgets, custom app icons, and priority support. Available as a yearly subscription or one-time lifetime purchase.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open Settings on your iPhone > tap your name > Subscriptions > Mylage Pro > Cancel Subscription. You'll continue to have Pro access until the end of your current billing period. Lifetime purchases never expire and don't need to be cancelled.
My trips aren't being detected. What should I check?
Make sure:
- Location permission is set to "Always" (Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Mylage)
- Background App Refresh is enabled (Settings > General > Background App Refresh)
- Auto-tracking is enabled in Mylage's settings
- Low Power Mode may reduce tracking accuracy — try disabling it
